Dungeons & Dragons: Blood of Gruumsh miniatures set. After working on miniatures for a few years I got the chance to art direct this set of miniatures. That entails working with R&D to determine what types of characters we would be using and how they look. I worked with an external team of artists to create the 3D assets for production. I also had to work closely with our production team at Wizards to ensure the complexity of each figure was within budget while maintaining visual interest.

When producing miniatures, you have a limited number of paint operations. Every time the artist touches the plastic miniature it costs money. There are a number of factors that determine how complex a paint job can be per character such as rarity, piece count, and the design of the character. Piece count refers to the number of molds used to make one miniature. The more pieces you get, the more dynamic you can make your characters look but with increased production costs.
